SOCKEYE SALMON FISHING
June 20 - July 31
The Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game sets
and meets an escapement goal of well over one million Sockeye Salmon
- that is a lot of fish. These fish move through the Naknek, and spawn
in the mouth of the river, the rest go in to the lake and spawn in all
of the local tributaries. On the Naknek River you may keep 5 per day
per person. Once these Sockeye hit the Naknek River, you can catch them
on spinners, spoons, flies, and egg-sucking leeches. Several thousand
sockeye enter the Brooks river (which runs into Naknek Lake) and spawn
in Brooks lake. The Brooks river offers great fly fishing with egg-sucking
leeches, a green marvel, Montana Brassy and orange and chartreuse Comets.
The Brooks river is all catch and release.
