SILVER SALMON FISHING
August 1 - Sept. 10

The Naknek River and it's local tributaries
offer fantastic fishing for these aggressive feeders. When the Silver Salmon hit the fresh
water from salt - they mean business, they are suckers for flash. Vibrax, Pixies, Spoons,
Flash-n-Glos, Black/Silver and White/Red Jigs are some of the ways to lure this very
acrobatic member of the salmon family. The Naknek River receives decent to strong Silver
returns on the average, with a limit of 5 Silvers per day per person - weighing in up to
18 lb.

SOCKEYE
SALMON FISHING
June 20 - July 31
The Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game sets and meets an escapement
goal of one million Sockeye Salmon - that means a lot of fish. These fish roar through the
Naknek, but a percentage stay and spawn in the mouth of the river, the rest go in to the
lake and spawn in all of the local tributaries. On the Naknek River you may keep 5 per day
per person. Once these Sockeye find their spawning areas on the Naknek River, you can try
to catch them on spinners, spoons, coho flies, and egg-sucking leeches. Several thousand
sockeye enter the Brooks river (which runs into Naknek Lake) and spawn in Brooks lake. The
Brooks river offers great fly fishing with egg-sucking leeches, a green marvel, Montana
Brassy and orange and chartreuse Comets. The Brooks river is all catch and release.

Over 1 million Sockeye Salmon travel up the Naknek River annually.
